Hyundai group goes into dual clutch

The Korean Hyundai Kia group is developing dual-clutch transmissions for its European-built compact cars, according to a report in the UK’s Autocar magazine. The publication says the transmission is due “within two years,” without citing sources or revealing the development partner engaged by Hyundai.

Kia’s factory in Slovakia and the sister Hyundai facility in the Czech Republic produced 211,000 and 170,000 vehicles respectively in 2007. The group is preparing to double its European engine production capacity to 600,000 units a year by 2012, according to
Automotive News Europe.
