Nissan honors Borg Warner
Nissan has given its 2008 Global Innovation Award to BorgWarner for the supply of the dual-clutch transmission on the high-performance GT-R coupé. The award rewards suppliers who provide advanced technologies to the company.
The 3.8 liter twin-turbo premium sports coupé, benchmarked against the Porsche 911 Turbo during its development, has been lavishly praised in the media and has attracted positive comparisons with other leading supercars.
BorgWarner supplies the dual-clutch module, the clutch control module, the shift actuation system and the synchronizer assemblies for the six-speed transaxle transmission.
BorgWarner, based in Auburn Hills, Michigan, already supplies dual-clutch systems to six leading automakers and builds DCTs in a joint venture with Ford for Ford and Volvo-branded models.
The company expects to quadruple its production of DCTs over the next six years to 2.5 million units per year.
